What is a plea bargain?

A plea bargain is an agreement entered into between the prosecution or state and the defendant or accused. In many cases, it amounts to a lesser charge and conviction if the defendant agrees to plead guilty to the charges brought against him or her. Any case that gives a person deferred adjudication is usually the result of a plea bargain.
