How long do I have to wait to have my Class A misdemeanor expunged?

Class A misdemeanors that can be expunged cannot be expunged from the convicted individual’s record until after a five year period of waiting. So after the person completes his or her prison sentence, deferred adjudication, etc. the person must wait five years before the Class A misdemeanor can be expunged from the individual’s criminal record. During the five year waiting period, the person cannot be charged or convicted with anything above the offense level of a fine-only traffic ticket.
